Bringing a Dream to Life in Algies Bay

That belief was at the heart of our recent project in Algies Bay, where we had the privilege of helping a local couple bring their dream retirement home to life.

Set high above one of the beautiful beaches north of Auckland, with sweeping views to Kawau Island, the home is more than just a build, it’s a statement. From the start, the owners had a clear vision: to create a space that would serve not only as a sanctuary for retirement, but also as a place for family, friends, and future generations to gather.

They knew they wanted to work with local professionals who understood the unique character of Algies Bay, and that’s where we came in. “We went in with the idea that we wanted to use local people because they know Algies Bay,” the owners shared. That local-first approach shaped everything that followed.

One of the standout features of this home is the dramatic double-height entrance — a key part of the brief. “The entranceway had to be ‘wow,’” they told us. From there, we worked closely with the architect and sub-trades to deliver a design that maximised the home’s stunning outlook and brought in as much natural light as possible through expansive glazing.

Throughout the process, trust and collaboration were the foundation. Our long-standing relationships with local suppliers helped us keep things smooth and responsive on site. “Everyone knew each other,” the owner said. “From the architect through to the builder and suppliers, we all shared the same commitment to getting it right.”

Details made the difference. Careful attention to symmetry, joinery, and flow ensured every element, from the elegant stairwell to the sunlit living spaces, felt just right. We even mocked up key areas with tape on-site to make sure the final result lined up perfectly with the owners vision.

Now complete, the home is a true reflection of everything we value at ABC; quality craftsmanship, local community, and building spaces that mean something.
